Donna Hamilton is a painter, illustrator, musician and singer. She is the former lead singer, violinist and percussionist for the Hoboken, NJ-based band Tiny Lights. Described by Rolling Stone as "Sly and the Family Partridge," the band toured the U.S. extensively, from 1988-1994 performing with Michelle Shocked, 10,000 Maniacs, Henry Rollins, Poi Dog Pondering, The Feelies, The Bongos, and many others.
Donna says of her art and philosophy, "I love making people happy. That sounds cliched, but it’s the truth. If I can make a picture that makes someone smile, I’m good. I have always loved faces, expressions…I try to translate what I see. I’m a garbage collector. Things that are about to be thrown out…can be made into something beautiful, or useful. I love to explore this with children (I’m a preschool teacher). I hope that they will see 'trash” as something they can use to make something with…there is too much trash. Art makes people happy. Thinking makes people’s souls happy. I also love things that don’t make sense…"
Donna - love the website and the art. I especially love the CHAIR. If I had a chair like that I could tell Carmen; "See ya later honey. I'm going into the den to amble among the stars and planets and possibly navigate through a black hole or two. I'll tell you what I find out later at dinner." John
ReplyDeleteJohn you are so funny! I love your sense of humor. I made that chair that way for the kids I baby sat because you can spin around in it. The back of it says,”astronaut at work..”. I’ll see if I can find a picture of it. If I was your neighbor I would gladly paint you an astronaut chair....send ing love❤️
